Google Messages, a self-explanatory Google application, will stop working on uncertified devices come March 31.
Uncertified phones are android devices that have not passed Google’s certification tests and those that do not ship with Google apps like Huawei.
Behind this decision are fears that uncertified devices pose risks to users including compromising their data.
If this plan goes through, people who use recent Huawei devices as well as android devices fitted with Chinese ROMs will have to look for alternatives for sending and receiving messages.
