Samsung Display, during its fourth quarter conference call, announced that it is working on rollable and slidable displays. A patent recently came to light that reveals they’ve been working on such a technology for about a year.
The division’s senior vice president, Choi Kwon-young, who made the announcement further stated that they will release the displays later this year.
While Samsung has always been ahead of the curve at display technology, OPPO was the first to announce such a device, followed by LG. However, OPPO will not be mass manufacturing such a phone, and LG might be exiting the smartphone business entirely.
Because of this, Samsung will squarely be taking the driver’s seat on this technology.
